IN TOUCH WITH YOUR DIRECTORS
The Board of Directors would like to thank all of you for supporting USSA. We will update this information as a result in any changes that may affect your decisions for the upcoming year.
While the majority of oval rules remain constant, there have been a few changes that may require some attention on builders and drivers part.
Ski’s in all classes:
Track in Pure Stock:
Data acquisition and tachs in F-500:
No other changes to rules for existing classes at this point.
Be aware that F-500 will be an extreme focus class for tech this season.
While USSA has taken a different position on some of the rules interpretations that are being used, we (USSA) in the interest of the same rules in all areas of the country have complied with the requests from other ISR affiliates. Be aware that steering column placement, methods of mounting, and location will be observed.
As will be the following:
motor mount type, location,
trailing arm dimensions
trailing arm mount and fit points
front end geometry pick up locations
tunnel to bulkhead mounting and location
Background for these interpretation changes:
USSA tech staff has taken the position in the past, that if a performance improvement is not gained, ( for instance,) the type of steering column mount used, to move the column ahead of the hoop, it was ok and legal. Additionally USSA allowed for trimming of the rear of the tunnel to be able to mount the close off panel in the legal location two inches from the track itself. However: By the interpretation of the affiliates neither of these practices will no longer be allowed. PLEASE BE AWARE OF THESE RECENT INTERPRETATION CHANGES AND MAKE THE CHANGES NECESSARY TO BE LEGAL.
Fuel tests:
USSA will remain at a -55 baseline for the meter test, and will use Cerric Ammonium Nitrate test procedures along with Reagent D tests for Dioxane all season long.
Helmets remain at 2005 SNELL or European ECE 22.05. EXCEPT: Enclosed cockpit sleds, helmets must be Snell 2005 or newer, SA rated (automotive race standard) The importance of the SA rating cannot be overlooked.
Outlaw 600: USSA will offer this class this season. The currently the board is deciding on the amount of funding it can provide to the class. The plan is to offer the class at all events, if less than the proper amount to race are not available at a location, one or two sleds will be ran as a exhibition for crowd appeal. The Enclosed cockpit class offers a driver more protection that a open chassis sled, has some controls on spending limitations with basically spec engines and controlled traction. We expect the first several years will be a work in progress, but expect the class to be very exciting and offer a new style of racing to the ice oval world. Stay Tuned!!
